Visitors to Nairobi's Carnivore restaurant can enjoy an iconic drink concocted of honey, lime, sugar, ice, and vodka. Known as "dawa", the drink always includes a honey-dipped muddler. These hand carved wild olive wood muddlers can be used for whipping up dawas at home, and the beaded tips pay homage to the drink's East African origins.

Swahili African Modern is a fair trade import, design and distribution company based in Eugene, Oregon. Founder Leslie Mittelberg lived in Kenya and fell in love with African artistry. Upon returning to the US in 1995, she founded her company and named it in honor of the people of East Africa whose artistry inspired her. Swahili now has a large network that includes individual markers, export agents, and micro-enterprises in nations all over Africa.
