Hand-Carved Soapstone Heart

Kenyan artisans hand carve beautiful all-natural heart keepsakes from creamy white soapstone. Since soapstone can contain small veins of color from various minerals, each heart is completely one-of-a-kind. (Note that the Zebra Striped heart is hand carved from soft soapstone by Kenyan carvers, then painted with a black and white zebra print finish.)

Swahili African Modern is a fair trade import, design and distribution company based in Eugene, Oregon. Founder Leslie Mittelberg lived in Kenya and fell in love with African artistry. Upon returning to the US in 1995, she founded her company and named it in honor of the people of East Africa whose artistry inspired her. Swahili now has a large network that includes individual markers, export agents, and micro-enterprises in nations all over Africa.

Because this is a handmade item crafted from varying natural soapstone, each is unique. Sold singly.
