Kenyan Soapstone Heart - Red

Soapstone (or Kisii stone as it is known locally) is quarried in western Kenya. After selecting the right stones, artisans carve hearts using machetes, adzes and small knives. After they are sanded smooth, the hearts are dyed and the designs are incised.
