This piece is handcrafted by Burundian and Congolese female refugees at the Mahama and Kigeme Refugee Camps in Rwanda. Created in partnership with MADE51, a brand connecting refugee artisans with global markets, brought to life by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.
Indego Africa invests 100% of their profits into education programs for the women who handcraft their products and youth in their communities. They have provided over 1,100 artisans and 250 young people in Rwanda & Ghana with employment opportunities, entrepreneurship training, and consistent access to the global export market.
This basket is handcrafted in Rwanda with a time-honored weaving technique passed down from generations of artisans. It's made from hand-dyed strands of sisal wrapped around bunches of sweetgrass. It includes a loop on the back for easy hanging.
